FIRSTENERGY CORPORATION SUPPORTS REGIONAL GROWTH
Lewistown, PA – FirstEnergy Corporation, provider of electric services to Mifflin County and throughout Pennsylvania is investing $1,000 in Focus Central Pennsylvania to support regional growth by promoting the region to attract new corporate investment. A check was presented by FirstEnergy-Penelec Economic Development Manager JP Tambourine to Focus representatives Rob Postal, Board member and Lauren Bryson, Executive Director.
Focus Central Pennsylvania is a non-profit dedicating 100% of its time and resources to attracting corporate investment in the region to create jobs. Focus currently serves six (6) contiguous counties in the central part of Pennsylvania, USA with a total population of 311,000; a total labor force of 137,000; and nearly 12,000 business establishments. The counties and major cities include Columbia (Bloomsburg, Berwick); Montour (Danville); Union (Lewisburg, Mifflinburg); Snyder (Selinsgrove); Northumberland (Sunbury, Milton); and Mifflin (Lewistown).
According to Rob Postal, Focus Board member and President/CEO of the Mifflin County Industrial Development Corporation (MCIDC), “the competition to attract business is very high, with some regions actually giving property away. We make the process of site selection for new businesses more cost efficient by providing easy access to site location information, such as demographics, wages, business data and, of course, detailed property information. First Energy’s investment is an essential part of our efforts to keep up with technological changes that are designed to provide easy access to information over the Internet, where 98% of first round site selections are done.”
JP H Tambourine, FirstEnergy-Penelec stated that “our Economic Development Department understands that it takes a team approach to be successful in business attraction and retention. Investing in Focus Central PA and working with agencies like MCIDC are ways we can do this. We are very pleased to invest in Focus as part of our business attraction efforts.”
FirstEnergy Corporation is headquartered in Akron, OH. Penelec, the subsidiary servicing Mifflin County and approximately 30 other counties throughout Pennsylvania, is based in Erie, PA.
“Focus is working to drive new leads, new job creating opportunities to the region and our investors make this possible”. said Executive Director Lauren Bryson. “Focus recently finalized an aggressive 3 year strategic plan to more actively and effectively attract new corporate investment. We are excited about the opportunities and appreciative of supporters of the mission and work that needs to be done. Quality, cost competitive and reliable energy infrastructure is a significant competitive advantage for manufacturing prospects, so it is of extreme value to have partners like FirstEnergy engaged and supporting our efforts.”
Economic Development is the lifeblood of every community. It creates jobs, builds neighborhoods, supports businesses and provides a higher quality of life. This work is not accomplished by one, but by many. Focus Central Pennsylvania is part of a committed team in the region that is driving economic development for communities in Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Union, Snyder and Mifflin communities.
