Shamokin Dam, PA – On October 16th and 17th Focus hosted a small delegation of site location consultants from across the United States and representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development to familiarize them with the region.

Site location consultants work with hundreds of companies a year to determine the best location to expand their business.  The goal of the tour was to familiarize them with available properties, key attributes of the region that support business growth and to connect them with the knowledgeable team of key project resource partners, including area elected officials and economic developers in Pennsylvania here to support their searches. “It is critical to familiarize site location consultants with Central Pennsylvania, as often the region is not considered for business expansion/relocation projects due to either lack of knowledge of the economic development assets or perceptions that the region lacks available properties, transportation and utility infrastructure, and labor attributes such as availability, value, and skills.”  said Lauren Bryson, Executive Director of Focus Central PA.

The tour included visiting twelve available sites and buildings in the Focus partners counties, a presentation that highlighted information about highway, rail and air infrastructure; proximity to markets; workforce availability and educational institutions; incentives including Keystone Opportunity Zones; cost of living and quality of life, and an opportunity to have discussions with Focus Board member Eric Winslow, President of Citizen’s Electric; Northumberland County Commissioner Rick Shoch; Montour County Commissioner Trevor Finn and Union County Commissioner Preston Boop. The familiarization tour was successful and extremely well received by the guests.  There were many comments about certain components of the region that impressed the consultants including learning about the highly regarded short line railroad that services the region, how important quality rail service is to certain clients, and the partnerships in place to support this type of infrastructure and regional advancement.

This tour is just a part of the overall strategy of Focus to communicate the key attributes the Central Region offers to support corporate growth and expansion to ensure the region has a diverse and sustainable future. Focus Central Pennsylvania is the region’s resource for promoting new corporate investment, driven by a mission to attract new business investments and family-sustaining jobs to the Central PA region.  Focus Central PA supports six county partners in the region including Montour, Snyder, Union, Columbia, Northumberland and Mifflin.  This tour was made possible by the support of PPL Corporation & Affiliates, Zimmerman Motors and the dedication and support of the Focus Board of Trustees and investors supporting regional cooperation for effective promotion to advance Central Pennsylvania.
